Police investigating the disappearance of a 19-year-old university student have found a body in a Bristol canal.

Will Appleby, a student at the University of the West of England, was last seen in the Motion club, on Avon Street, at about 0230 BST on Sunday.

Divers from Avon and Somerset had been dredging the canal near Feeder Road since Thursday.

A police spokesman said the body had not been formally identified and the find had been reported to the coroner.

Cattle Market Road and Feeder Road remain closed while further police investigations take place.

A Facebook group set up to help find Mr Appleby has more than 5,000 followers.

Police were originally alerted after he failed to catch a bus home to Ulverston in Cumbria on Monday morning.

Mr Appleby had just finished the first year of his media studies course at University of the West of England.
