Trees to be cut by half in Taunton High Street

Half of the trees that line Taunton High Street are set to be cut down.

The move by Taunton Deane Borough Council has been welcomed by local traders and is part of a £30,000 plan to de-clutter the pedestrianised street ahead of a major facelift.

Eight of the 17 trees will be removed, along with the planters they have overgrown.

Paving slabs will also be re-laid where tree roots have dislodged them, and all the bins and bike racks will be moved.
