Bristol's Pierian community centre to close

A community centre in the St Pauls area of Bristol is to close because of funding problems.

The Pierian Centre in Bristol, which opened in 2002, offered courses, workshops and training to people and businesses in the city.

A statement from the centre's managers said the team running it was "over-stretched" and there was a £50,000 shortfall in funding.

It went on to say that it would remain open until December.

Founder June Burrough said that the "pot had run dry".

"It has been the most extraordinary adventure - and there'll be much that we'll miss - but everything has its season," she added.
