A woman from Bristol who set fire to a house owned by her boyfriend's parents has been jailed for three years.

Sophie Harris, 20, set fire to the home which belonged to Bernard and Bridget Speed, on Fenswood Close in Long Ashton, in April.

She had recently broken up with their son Joby.

Harris, who has a history of mental illness, pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court to charges of arson and assaulting a police officer.

Bernard and Bridget Speed have been living in a caravan since the fire.

Det Insp Michael Langdon, from Avon and Somerset Police, said the Speeds had seen Harris as a "daughter figure".

"They are hoping that the time in custody will assist Sophie and help her with the issues she has," he said.
