Raid leads to electricity sub-station warning

An electricity sub-station near Bristol was left in a "lethal condition" after copper earthing strips were stolen.

Police say thieves took the metal after digging underneath an electrified fence in Iron Acton in the early hours of Monday morning.

As well as the 46 pieces of copper, thieves also took tools and diesel from vehicles which were left at the site.

A National Grid spokeswoman said: "Anyone breaking in and damaging the equipment is risking their lives."

Avon and Somerset Police said several people were likely to have been involved in the raid and would have needed a vehicle to carry away the stolen items.

They are appealing for anybody who saw anything suspicious in Larks Lane to contact them.
