Bristol Prison inmates' working hours increased

Inmates at Bristol Prison are to trial an increase in working hours at the jail to more than 33 a week.

The Ministry of Justice said prisoners were currently working 22 hours and the move could see full working weeks eventually introduced.

Thirty inmates at the prison's waste management unit are taking part in the scheme while a further 15 at the laundry unit are also working longer.

Managers hope the trial will help give inmates more time to gain new skills.

Recently, a Mercedes E280 car seized by police was donated to the jail to help inmates learn how to valet cars.
