Council withdraws plan to ban dogs from parks in Bath

A council plan to ban dogs from certain parks in Bath has been withdrawn.

Bath and North East Somerset Council had proposed to force dog owners to keep their pets on leads in some areas and ban them from some open spaces altogether.

However the council said the plan drew "very strong views" from the public and canine welfare organisations, which led it to withdraw the consultation.

A spokesman said: "We will issue refreshed proposals later in the year."

He added: "Encouraging responsible dog ownership and making open spaces even more safe and pleasant is still an aim of the council."

A spokeswoman for welfare charity the Dogs Trust said the proposed plan was "draconian" and "not very reasonable".
