A couple battered a man to death in a "prolonged and vicious assault", a court has been told.

Timothy Crooke, 47, was living in Fishponds, Bristol, when he died last March.

Thomas Tibbatts, 33, and Zarah Bryant, 23, both from Fishponds, deny murdering him.

The court heard the couple, who are both alcoholics, had been drinking with Mr Crooke and were later spotted on CCTV entering his flat.

Mr Crooke, whose injuries included five broken ribs, had been beaten all over, the court was told.

The trial continues.
