Consultation on Bishopsworth lorry ban to begin

A long-awaited public consultation over plans to ban heavy lorries in the Bishopsworth area is to begin.

After a 10 year campaign by local residents, Bristol City Council is to review the existing limit and has proposed to double it to 15 tonnes.

Councillor Richard Eddy said: "The extension of the lorry-ban zone is a victory for people power."

The proposal is to widen the lorry-ban boundary to cover most of Highridge and western Bishopsworth.

Consultation will begin on 2 March and will finish on 26 March.

"Obviously, the designation of this zone is not a panacea in its own right and we rely to a large extent on the National Freight Association, private companies and the Police observing the weight-restrictions," Mr Eddy added.
