New £35m leisure centre opens in Hengrove in Bristol
A new £35m leisure complex which boasts a 50 metre-long "Olympic standard" pool has opened in south Bristol.
Hengrove Park Leisure Centre, which is run by Parkwood Leisure in partnership with Bristol City Council, has taken two and a half years to build.
Other facilities at the centre include a four-court sports hall, gym, exercise studios and a health suite.
A council spokesman said the centre marked a "massive step forward" in the regeneration of south Bristol.
He said the investment in Hengrove Park brought with it "new employment and training opportunities for local people".
The building of the leisure centre was a Private Finance Initiative and was funded by £35m private finance initiative credits from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
