Two hundred jobs are to be created as an energy company is opening a new base near Bristol next year.

GE Oil and Gas is opening an underwater engineering centre at Aztec West Business Park in South Gloucestershire.

Most of the new jobs will be in engineering and project management.

The company already employs 550 people at its nearby base in Nailsea, north Somerset, where it has spent more than £620,000 modernising the facilities.

Jack Lopresti, Conservative MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke, said the move was good news for "UK manufacturing at a challenging time for the economy".

Rod Christie, vice president for subsea systems at GE Oil and Gas, said: "The area has a strong pool of high integrity industries, such as aerospace, defence, nuclear and automotive that we can tap into, allowing us to realise our growth goals more readily."
