South Gloucestershire youth centres get funding boost

Four youth centres in South Gloucestershire have received £45,690 of funding from the local authority.

Youth centres in St Nicholas, Wickwar, Chipping Sodbury and Fromeside in Winterbourne will benefit.

The community-based Frome Vale Area Forum agreed the funding on behalf of South Gloucestershire Council.

St Nicholas Youth Centre in Yate will get £15,000 in the next three years and manager Iain Macfarlane said he was "absolutely delighted".

Mr Macfarlane said: "South Gloucestershire Council and Yate Town Council are very youth-orientated, and we are very lucky that with all the cuts taking place all around that we are in the right place.

"They are behind us trying very hard to support us, and I'm very grateful."

Tony Davis from South Gloucestershire Council said ensuring young people have the right facilities had always been a "top priority."
