Portishead police officer charged over speed points
A police officer has been charged over allegedly accepting speeding points for a civilian member of staff.
PC Alex Owen, 31, and police worker Nina East, 34 both of Portishead, work for Avon and Somerset Police.
It is alleged that between July 2008 and January 2009, Ms East was driving a car caught in a speed check.
The pair were charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice after Mr Owen allegedly claimed to be driving to prevent Ms East losing her licence.
The Crown Prosecution Service allege he did so in order to avoid her being liable for three penalty points, which may have resulted in her disqualification due to existing penalty points on her licence.
Both are due to appear at Gloucester Crown Court on Wednesday.
