An inmate at HMP Bristol has been left with serious head injuries after he was attacked by a fellow prisoner.

The victim remains in hospital with serious head and face injuries, Avon and Somerset Police said, after the assault last Thursday.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been bailed.

HMP Bristol holds a mixture of adult males and young offenders. The majority stay for less than 12 months.
