A convicted murderer is on the run from HMP Leyhill after being allowed home leave in Guildford, police said.

Albert Edward Stanley, 63, was given a life sentence in 1980 for a murder he committed in East Sussex. He was transferred to Leyhill last year.

Stanley failed to return to the prison in South Gloucestershire on Monday. As well as Surrey, he has links in Sussex.

Avon and Somerset Police said he should not be approached by the public.
