Motorist killed when car hits tree on A37 Hursley Hill

A motorist died when the car he was driving left the road and hit a tree.

The crash happened at about 09:00 GMT on the Bristol-bound carriageway of the A37 at Hursley Hill, Pensford.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the driver, thought to be in his 30s, suffered serious head injuries and had to be cut from his vehicle.

A second accident happened later at the same location but details of any casualties have not been released.

Collision investigators remain at the scene to find out more about the circumstances of the fatal accident.

The force spokesman added it was not known when the A37 would reopen but warned motorists had reported icy conditions along the diversionary routes.

Any witnesses to the accidents should contact the Avon and Somerset force.
