Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed to all traffic over this weekend and the next to allow for scaffolding to be erected.

The bridge, which links Leigh Woods to Clifton, is to undergo restoration work on the roof structures, drainage and access ladders.

Bridge master David Anderson said the "major work" is necessary to repair defects with the towers which are a "high priority to tackle".

It is expected to be completed by 2016.
