Dean Sawyer identified by police as dead man

A man found murdered in a Bristol flat may have been lying there for two weeks, police have said.

The body found at a property in City Road, St Paul's, on Sunday morning is believed to be 43-year-old Dean Sawyer, Avon and Somerset Police said

Det Insp Mike Buck said it was "clear he'd been the victim of a serious assault".

He said house-to-house enquiries had been carried out as specialist investigators examined the property.

Mr Sawyer founded the Positive Causes project based in Old Market, which works with homeless people.

He spoke to BBC Bristol in 2014 about how he used his experience as a former drug user to help people with addictions.

The organisation offers support and counselling, and employs people who struggle find work to distribute a monthly magazine.
