Probe into thatched cottage fire in Cambridgeshire

The fire service and police are due to investigate what caused a fire which severely damaged a thatched cottage in Cambridgeshire.

Sixty firefighters, including crews from Suffolk, were at the property in Castle Camps, near Haverhill in Suffolk, from 1640 BST on Thursday.

A passer-by had noticed a fire in the thatch and told the occupiers, the fire service said.

Crews were tackling the fire for at least five hours.

They battled to prevent the fire spreading from the semi-detached cottage into the neighbouring property, a fire service spokeswoman said.
