Cambridge University students in new action

University of Cambridge students angered by cuts to education and public services have protested outside the university council.

It comes as the council meets to discuss the university's views on tuition fees and funding cuts.

Students said they had ended an 11-day occupation of the university's Old Schools to take part in the protest.

Last week students closed access to the vice-chancellor's office and finance office.

Students are angry at government plans to allow institutions to almost treble fees to a maximum £9,000 per year.

Ministers plan to press ahead with a vote on the issue before Christmas.
