Great Haddon zone expansion in Peterborough approved

Plans to expand an employment zone near Peterborough have been approved in the hope that it will lead to the creation of more than 8,000 jobs.

The first phase of the revised Great Haddon expansion, south west of Peterborough, was passed on Tuesday.

A second phase could see 5,350 homes and four schools built.

Nigel North from the City Council, said: "To build a top class development is the only way we can encourage people to come and invest in Peterborough."

Councillor John Watt, who represents the Yaxley and Farcet areas, said that 3,000 residents objected to the first phase of the plans last year.

There were said to be concerns about the loop road around Yaxley and the development's visual impact.

No date has been set for approval of the second phase of construction.
