Body found in River Cam at Jesus Green Cambridge

The body of a man with facial injuries has been recovered from a river in Cambridge.

A member of the public spotted the body in the River Cam at Jesus Green and police were called at 0200 BST.

A police spokesman said: "The man had facial injuries but detectives are keeping an open mind as to how he received them."

Officers want anyone who was in the area between midnight and 0200 BST to contact them.

The spokesman added: "We are investigating the death of a man found in the River Cam, which we are now treating as suspicious.

"The man, who was in his 50s, was discovered by a member of the public in the river at Jesus Green.

"We're trying to discover how the man sustained the injuries and how he got to be in the river."

A post-mortem examination will be carried out at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
