A man has been arrested in Lithuania on suspicion of the kidnap and murder of a woman missing in Peterborough.

Vitalija Baliutaviciene, 29, has not been seen since leaving her home in Burmer Road on 12 August.

Cambridgeshire Police carried out a major search for Ms Baliutaviciene, released CCTV images of her and placed an advert in Lithuanian on Facebook.

Authorities in Lithuania have arrested a 46-year-old man, who is now awaiting extradition.

Distinctive bag

Det Insp Martin Brunning said: "This is a significant development in the investigation, however we are keeping an open mind as to whether Vitalija is still alive and well.

"I would continue to urge anyone with any information about Vitalija's disappearance to contact police."

The mother of one had been due to walk along Thistlemoor Road and down Lincoln Road to be picked up for work in Geneva Street. However, she did not arrive.

She was last seen wearing light blue three-quarter length jeans, a blue denim jacket and light plimsoll trainers.

It is believed she was carrying an umbrella and a distinctive brightly-coloured bag with a butterfly pattern.
