A man extradited from Lithuania to the UK by police investigating the disappearance of a mother from Peterborough has appeared in court.

Lithuanian Vitalija Baliutaviciene, 29, has not been seen since leaving her home in Burmer Road, in the New England area of the city, on 12 August.

Rimas Venclovas, 46, appeared before Peterborough magistrates charged with murder and kidnapping, said police.

He was remanded in custody to Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday.

He had been arrested in Lithuania on suspicion of kidnap and murder on 31 August and was extradited to the UK by Cambridgeshire Police detectives on Friday.

Last month a 29-year-old woman was arrested in Peterborough on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the case and bailed until 7 November.

A 39-year-old woman also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender remains on bail.
