Norovirus closes Addenbrooke's wards and restricts visitors

Eight wards at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge have been affected by the winter vomiting bug, norovirus.

Four wards have closed completely, bays in a further four wards are closed, and restricted visiting hours have been introduced on all adult wards.

Children are not allowed to visit any wards unless it is "essential".

A spokesman said the measures were necessary after a rise in cases of the bug which causes diarrhoea and vomiting.

He added: "If you think you have norovirus, or if anyone else in your household is affected, then please do not visit hospital until at least 48 hours after your symptoms have disappeared."

The hospital advises those with the condition to stay indoors and drink plenty of water to keep rehydrated.
