Fire at Flint Cross recycling plant

A fire at a recycling plant in south Cambridgeshire ignited 25 tonnes of wood chippings.

The blaze broke out at Bridgefoot Quarry near the A505 at Flint Cross at about 04:30 GMT.

Incident commander Steve Cotton said: "The immediate aim was to stop the fire spreading to machinery and a diesel bowser which were nearby.

"Now, due to the compacted material on the site, the best thing is to leave the fire to burn itself out."

Six crews, from Royston and Sawston, were at the scene at the height of the blaze.

Two engines remained in attendance to oversee the operation.
