Boy, eight, indecently assaulted in Peterborough

An eight-year-old boy was indecently assaulted by a dog walker while he played on his own in Peterborough.

Police said the victim was playing on a field behind Dogsthorpe Community Centre when a man spoke to him and followed him into a bush.

The man, described as in his 30s with short black hair, assaulted the boy and walked off towards Belvoir Way. The boy ran home and told his mother.

The incident happened between 16:00 and 16:20 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said the offender has freckles and was wearing brown trousers.

He had a small back dog with lumps on its leg and hindquarters.

Det Sgt Andy Tolley said: "The young victim was very shaken up by what happened and it is important we catch the man responsible as soon as possible.

"We have carried out inquiries in the area and will be checking any nearby CCTV.

"Extra patrols are also being directed to the area.

"I would appeal for anyone who thinks they recognise this man, and maybe seen him walking a dog in the area before, to contact police."
