A police officer has admitted a string of sex offences against a child.

Sergeant Nick Lidstone, 54, of Cambridgeshire Police, pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including sexual assault and taking indecent photographs of a child.

Appearing at Norwich Crown Court, he also admitted three counts of rape.

Sgt Lidstone, of Heslerton Way, Barrington, denied six further offences. He will return to the court for sentencing on 22 December.

The charges relate to alleged abuse between 1997 and 2014.

The three rape offences were said to have taken place when the victim was an adult.

Deputy Chief Constable Alec Wood, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "This was an appalling crime where the victim was put through a horrendous ordeal over a prolonged period".
