Burwell Jess Smith gunshot murder: Five more arrests

Five more people have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a man shot in the back in Cambridgeshire on New Year's Day.

Jessie Smith, 36, of Common Road, Potton, Bedfordshire, was found dead in a car in First Drove, Burwell.

Four men have been arrested in Cornwall and a woman was detained in Surrey. All are being held on suspicion of murder, police said.

A man arrested earlier has been released on bail.

Post-mortem tests showed Mr Smith died from a gunshot wound to the back.

Cambridgeshire Police said three men, aged 42, 17, and 19, were arrested in the Looe area on Thursday and the fourth, a 27-year-old, was arrested in the Redruth area.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested at an address in Chertsey.

A 57-year-old man from Burwell was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm on Tuesday and bailed until next month.

Officers investigating Mr Smith's murder said they were treating the incident as "isolated".
