Coton hammer attack robbery: Third man charged
A third man has been charged in connection with a violent attack on an elderly couple at their home.
Four men subjected the couple, in their 70s, to a four-hour ordeal in Coton, Cambridgeshire, in November.
The woman was struck with a hammer and the man repeatedly pricked with a brooch pin before the gang made off with valuable antiques.
John McCarthy, 34, of Greystoke Court, Cambridge, appeared in court charged with aggravated burglary.
Two other men were charged in connection with the attack in April.
Richard Leslie, 35, of Thornville Grove, Mitcham, south London, was charged with aggravated burglary and Marc Smith, 42, of Fallowfield, Cambridge, with handling stolen goods.
The robbery took place in Madingley Road between 22:00 GMT and 02:20 on 29 November.
The woman's toe was broken after it was hit with a hammer and she also sustained a black eye.
