Overnight freeze causes icy roads in Cornwall

Freezing temperatures caused dangerously icy roads across Cornwall when temperatures fell to -7C in some places overnight.

Cornwall Council's Highways Department said it had treated A and B routes and was working to salt major villages which have not been treated so far.

However, drivers were urged to take extra care again, especially on untreated roads.

Forecasters said temperatures were due to drop to -2C on Monday night.

The BBC travel news website reported that the A395 at Launceston was closed both ways at the Pipers Pool junction on Monday morning because of ice and an accident.
