Two Cornwall Council employees who provide equipment for people with disabilities have won a national customer service award.

Lyn Palmer and Derek Hill jointly received the Employee of the Year award from the British Healthcare Trades Association.

They work for the council-run Tremorvah Industries in Threemilestone, near Truro.

The award was based on feedback cards completed by customers throughout 2010.

Mrs Palmer, who has worked for the organisation for 17 years, said: "I treat everyone as individuals because everyone is different.

"The secret is to make people feel at ease, which sometimes takes a few minutes, sometimes a lot longer."

'Maximise employment'

She said she felt "very proud" for Tremorvah because "the company does a lot behind the scenes to help people."

Tremorvah sells and loans living aids and mobility equipment, including scooters, wheelchairs and stair lifts.

Over 70% of its staff have a recognised disability, and one of its aims is to maximise employment and development opportunities for people in Cornwall with disabilities.
