South West businesses busy for royal wedding
With the royal wedding just a few weeks away, BBC South West is looking at companies in the region which have a royal connection.
If a company has supplied goods or services to the Royal Household for at least five years, it can be awarded a royal warrant.
It is a mark of recognition and demonstrates excellence and quality.
Dartington Glass in North Devon produces Royal Brierley, the longest established name in English Crystal.
The company was founded in 1776 as an independent family business.
After supplying the present day royal family, it was provided with the royal warrant.
Master engraver Nick Davey said: "We do quite a lot for the Royal Family, producing gifts for them, or to give to foreign visitors."
Like many businesses in Cornwall and Devon, Dartington staff have been busy preparing for the royal wedding.
Hilary Green, head of design at Dartington Crystal, has been designing the commemorative gifts.
With no official artwork to use, she has created her own royal crown design.
Ms Green said: "I think the tall flute is my favourite. It is a classic design. I hope everyone will be toasting the couple and wishing them well."
BBC Spotlight's Janine Jansen is looking at companies in Cornwall and Devon with royal links. More will follow during April 2011.
