Three members of a family have been airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty in water off Cornwall.

Falmouth Coastguard was alerted just before midday to a father and daughter with body boards in difficulty in the sea at Holywell Bay.

It is believed the girl's mother then went into the water to help but got into difficulty too, coastguards said.

They got back to shore themselves, but were flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro for treatment.

The three were assisted at the scene by the Newquay Coastguard Rescue team before they were airlifted by the rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.
