Neighbour raises alarm to save Helston man from fire

A man has been rescued from a fire at his home in Cornwall after a neighbour raised the alarm.

Fire crews were called to the house in Hawkins Way, Helston at about 0500 BST.

Cornwall Fire Service said it was called by a neighbour who had heard the smoke alarm from "some distance away" and smelled smoke.

The firefighters found the householder downstairs and unaware of the fire, which was extinguished. The man was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire service said without the prompt action of the neighbour there may have been "a much more serious outcome".
