'Inconsiderate' drivers in Cornwall face penalty fines

Drivers in Cornwall who park too far away from the kerb face being fined.

Cornwall Council said from 13 June it would be issuing penalty notices for "inconsiderate driving."

Examples include parking more than 50cm (20in) away from the roadside or parking outside the lines of a designated parking space.

The council said parking restrictions were in place to ensure the "free flow" of traffic.

Cornwall Council took over responsibility for parking enforcement from the police in 2008.

Councillor Graham Hicks, the council's cabinet member for transportation and highways, said: "Parking restrictions... help keep congestion to a minimum, allowing free access to emergency services.

"They can help the local economy by ensuring that there are places for businesses to load and unload and that spaces become available on a regular basis for shoppers."
