Out-of-control bonfires prompt fire service warning

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has issued a safety warning after a recent spate of out-of-control bonfires.

One was a bonfire that had spread, setting fire to 20 metres of dry grass. Another spread to a garden shed.

Firefighters said these fires could have been prevented if the right safety measures had been put in place.

Mark Hewitt, from the fire service, said people must check the environment around them and think about the "worst case scenario".

He added one of the most important things was to check the weather conditions.
