Police are investigating a suspected arson attack which damaged a former chapel in Cornwall.

The fire service took 20 calls from neighbours telling them that the building at Wateringhill Close in St Austell was on fire at about 0130 BST.

Crews from Fowey, Mevagissey, St Austell and St Dennis attended.

Police said the building, which was used for storage by Cornwall Council, had become structurally unsafe.

Structural engineers have been called in.

John Castelton, from Cornwall Fire and Rescue, said: "We've brought in building control experts and our fire investigation team is now carrying out an investigation to find a probable cause."
