Cornwall people recognised in Queen's Birthday Honours list

Eight people in Cornwall have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Gillian Ayres, from Bude, has been appointed a CBE for services to art.

Michael Grandage, the artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden, who was raised in Cornwall, has become a CBE for services to drama.

Dr Robert John, from Helston and former chief executive officer of the Welding Institute, has been appointed OBE for services to industry.

Four people have been made MBEs:

  • Brenda Bailey for services to the community in Chacewater.
  • Lady Frances Barbara Molyneux Banham. For services to the community in Penzance.
  • Shirley Clemo for services to gardening in St Austell.
  • Roger Willey, a former station manager of the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, for services to the community in Mullion.

In other honours in the county, Ellen MacLennan, the woodlands accounts clerk of the Liskeard office of the Duchy of Cornwall, has become a Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO).
