Fire breaks out on Falmouth dry dock ferry

About 200 workers were evacuated from a ship in a Falmouth dry dock after fire broke out.

Emergency services were called at 1100 BST after oil caught light on the car transporter the Republic of Brazilia.

The fire had been put out when the fire service arrived but firefighters said it could have been much worse.

It follows a fire at the docks last week involving hundreds of acetylene cylinders, which resulted in about 150 people living nearby being evacuated.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service watch manager Stuart Williams said: "They were welding near the hydraulics and if the fire had spread to that it would have affected that oil too."
