A passenger group has threatened legal action against Cornwall Council over plans which could see bus routes axed.

The council said cuts to the concessionary fares scheme for elderly and disabled people were needed due to a reduction in government funding.

TravelWatch SouthWest said it believed the plans were illegal and called on the council to withdraw them.

Bus operators First and Western Greyhound said services could be withdrawn if council grants were cut.

The bus operators have been told by the council that cuts would be backdated to April if implemented.

The issue will be discussed by a council scrutiny committee on Wednesday.
