Lizard lifeboat tows yacht after engine fire

Three sailors have been towed back to a mooring point by a lifeboat after their engine caught fire off Cornwall.

The 31ft (9.4m) yacht Valkyrie was sailing from Flushing, near Falmouth, to the Isles of Scilly when a fire started in its engine room.

The Lizard lifeboat was launched at about 04:00 and the vessel found about about two miles (3.2km) south of Lizard Point.

It was towed back to its mooring in Flushing, the RNLI said.

The fire had been extinguished by the time the lifeboat arrived on scene.

The three sailors were shaken by their experience but suffered no injuries, the RNLI said.
