Fire crews rescue dog after Callington mineshaft plunge

A dog has been rescued after falling down a mineshaft in Cornwall.

The springer spaniel became trapped after plunging 50ft (15m) down the mineshaft at Kit Hill, near Callington, just before 14:00 BST.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Callington and Bodmin used line rescue equipment to lower a firefighter into the mineshaft.

A brigade spokesperson said the dog was unharmed and had been handed back to its grateful owner.
