Yachtsman rescued from Padstow harbour

A yachtsman has been rescued after he was found clinging to a mooring buoy in Padstow harbour in North Cornwall.

It is thought he had been in the water for about an hour.

Rock lifeboat found him at about 02:15 BST on Friday. The RNLI believed the man had fallen overboard from his 36ft (11m) yacht while trying to moor the vessel.

He had spent an hour in the water. The man, aged 60, is now recovering in hospital, his condition is unknown.

Martin Broadfoot, from the RNLI, said: "He was talking fairly coherently to the crew when we picked him up. He had done the right thing, he'd hung on to the buoy and shouted for help. Fortunately somebody heard him."
