Cornwall sees increase in jobless claimants

The number of people out of work and claiming benefit in Cornwall has increased, new official figures say.

In September, the total number of claimants was 8,709, an increase of 322 from August, the Office for National Statistics said.

The total equals 2.6% of the county's working population. It is also an increase on the same time last year, which was 2.2% of the population.

The national unemployment rate in the UK is 3.9%.
