A west Cornwall man has been jailed for a string of sex offences against four children over a period of 35 years.

Arthur Edwards, 80, started his abuse in 1975 and continued until 2010, Truro Crown Court heard.

Edwards, of Wesley Street, Redruth, was convicted of 10 assaults on a child under 16, two of sexual activity and two of indecency with a child.

He was labelled a "degenerate paedophile" by Judge Christopher Elwen who jailed him for seven years.

The court heard that one of his victims was abused over a period of more than 10 years, abuse which the court heard "destroyed her life".

Joss Ticehurst, defending, said: "He is 80 and his health is less than perfect because of his age."
