Redruth house fire: Arson suspected

A fire which caused extensive damage to a house in Cornwall is thought to have been started deliberately.

Emergency services were called to the property in Penventon Terrace, Redruth, just before 22:00 BST on Saturday.

No-one was hurt, but tens of thousands of pounds of damage was caused and the occupants had to be relocated.

Arson is suspected and Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Fire Service have begun a joint investigation.

Forty firefighters from Redruth, Camborne, Falmouth and Truro fought the fire at the two-storey house.

A police spokesman said that, when the alarm was raised, there were reports of "loud bangs".

Anyone with information about the fire should contact police.
