Volunteer RNLI lifeguards are set to patrol Newquay's Fistral beach during weekends in November due to the high number of visitors.

It is the second year the charity's lifeguards have offered the service.

The world renowned beach continues to draw in surfers and bodyboarders even in the colder months.

RNLI lifeguard supervisor Lewis Timson said "better wetsuit technology and fantastic facilities means there are always people milling around".

A team of three lifeguards will patrol between 10:00 and 16:00 GMT on weekends throughout the month.

Lifeguards will not be on site during the winter months and will resume the service in March 2012.
