Youth smoked cannabis before attack on 51-year-old man

A youth of 16 has admitted drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis before attacking a 51-year-old man who was punched and kicked.

The incident happened after an argument in a shop in Redruth in May.

The boy from Camborne, who cannot be named, has admitted a charge of wounding but denied he intended to kill his victim.

At Truro Crown Court he claimed his victim, Victor King, had insulted his girlfriend.

The boy was 15 at the time of the incident. He denied prosecution claims that he stamped and jumped on Mr King's face and head.

The court heard Mr King suffered fractured eye sockets, jaws and facial bones, and fractures of the voice box which would have caused him to choke to death if he had not received a tracheotomy.

The teenager, who denies attempted murder, has pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

The case continues.
