Pub landlady dies after fight in Liskeard

A woman died after a fight outside a pub in Cornwall on Christmas Eve, according to Devon and Cornwall police.

Officers were called to the White Horse Inn in Liskeard at about 22:00 GMT after reports of a large fight.

They had also been told that a 57-year-old woman at the same property had collapsed and was unconscious.

Police officers and medical staff tried to resuscitate her but she died. The woman has been named locally as the pub's landlady, Josephine Murtagh.

Nicholas Mallard, the mayor of Liskeard, said: "The town is deeply shocked that such a thing should happen at this time of the year."

Three local men - two aged 18 and the other aged 20 - were arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray.

They were later released on police bail until March.
